Perhaps my favorite part of shortcut cooking is calling a dish something more impressive than what it actually is. But Velveeta cheese sauce just doesn’t have the same ring to it as Jalapeño Cream Sauce.
This meal was thrown together on a whim. My husband craved Velveeta chili dip the previous night, leaving us with a [...]

You should’ve seen the size of the eggplant I got at the Farmer’s Market. Easily a foot long, as big as my niece’s head, and all for one crisp dollar bill. I couldn’t pass it up!I spent the day at work truly looking forward to dinner. It’s a pain in the butt to make and [...]

Among the many items in my pantry that I consider staples is Classico’s Roasted Garlic Alfredo sauce. Whether I’m using it in my famous cajun chicken pasta (which I surprisingly still haven’t shared on this blog!) or tossing it with shrimp and sun-dried tomatoes, it’s restaurant quality and simply the best out there, especially [...]

Tonight’s weekly Farscape night went the direction of many Farscape nights lately, filled mostly with eating and visiting until it was too late to get a proper episode in. But at least dinner was good! I love hosting dinner for friends, so when it’s our turn to host for Farscape it’s always a treat figuring [...]

CONFESSION: I know nothing about wine. Not even a little. I just know that red wine is good for cooking with red meat, while white wine is better for cooking with lighter meats and seafood. The good thing about this is, I’m totally not a snob. This allows me to try all sorts of new [...]

Heavens it’s good to be home! Extensive work and traveling have put the blog on hold, but I’m finally back home with time and resources to cook! Shopping for fresh ingredients isn’t the best idea when nobody’s going to be home to cook them, so I’m thrilled to finally be able to shop for the [...]

Seriously, can this get any cuter? The nearby Italian grocery always has the best frozen pasta, but I nearly fell over when I saw these adorable red and white heart-shaped cheese ravioli.
After a long day working overtime, I got home at 8:30 with no desire to cook. So I reached for some staples I always [...]

CONFESSION: Nearly all my über-gourmet ingredients come from the Clearance Bin. I can’t help it; I simply can’t pay full price for gourmet ingredients, and I don’t really care how fancy they are. $10 for infused grapeseed oil? Tell me $4 and we’ve got a deal. $6 for Japanese Panko breadcrumbs—hell no. But for $2, [...]

Since there are now three of us in the house packing lunches for the workday, I decided to make a quick skillet sauce and some pasta specifically for leftovers. It’s a super easy recipe that takes only about half an hour, makes a lot of food and is also nice and light. I had gotten [...]

Mmmm, homemade alfredo sauce that’s flawed, but delicious.

A quick recipe and techniques for making an easy pasta dish that’s great for large impromptu groups of guests!

I Confess…

All my cakes come from boxes. My spaghetti sauce isn't from scratch, and I think making my own pasta and bread (unless it comes from a mix…) is rarely worth the effort. I believe individually frozen chicken breasts and ready-made pie crusts are among the best inventions ever. Through these menus, recipes, tips and recommendations, I hope to show that the options for creative cooking are limitless, even when time and money are not.
